Fundraising Push in Lubbock

We have recently been in a big fundraising push. September started with us returning to Lubbock, making phone calls, and setting up meetings with lots of people. Our goal is to contact 120 people while we are here. Leah, this last week, has been able to reach out to almost 80! In these meetings (as some of you have experienced) we get to talk about the ministry we will be a part of and our financial needs.

We are also in contact with a few churches interested in our ministry. It has been very encouraging to have people interested, not only in our ministry, but spreading the Gospel in Japan. We pray that more people will be able to get involved in what God is doing in Japan.

Will you pray for us this month as we push towards being fully funded? As we make calls and meet with people, will you pray that they will be open to meeting with us and that we will have the confidence to share and ask for financial support? We are thankful for each one of you and your support.

Serving at Hope Shalom

We started August in Lubbock and had a great time serving with our Lubbock Sunday School class at Hope Shalom. We served food to people in need and even our kids got involved. Hope Shalom is a great ministry that Calvary Baptist has been involved in for a long time and Leah’s family has been involved with this ministry throughout the years. Leah’s grandpa (Grandad) would go each week to pray for people and was known as the “prayer guy”.

SCFC Sermon

I had the opportunity to preach at Springtown Community Fellowship in August. My step dad is the pastor there and had been going through a series on the basics of the faith. I talked on the church and missions from the perspective of God’s Kingdom. I may have gotten a little carried away and preached for almost an hour and a half! We had a great time though and I was encouraged by the people in the church.

Project Updates

Fundraising

I mentioned in our weekly prayer letter last week that we have reached about 22% in monthly commitments with 25 partners. We have around 24 other people who are interested in partnering and we added one more partner this last week. If all those interested join, we will reach almost 50% of our monthly goal!

Japanese

Japanese has taken a bit of a back seat these last few weeks. Our efforts have all gone into fundraising. We will pick it back up when other ministry commitments free up (which, honestly, is probably going to be when we are in Japan).
